Last year was the first race of the running Series of Marca in Valencia and I missed that race. This year I was certain to participate in this 10 km race. Although I will run the half marathon this weekend in Madrid and I don’t know if it is a good preparation to run a 10km race a week before. I did it anyway and don’t think it can do any harm.
The clock was put forward the night before and I didn’t sleep that much. At 8 am (7 am winter time) I took my bike and went to the start of the race close to Tarongers near the beach. I was pleasantly surprised by the good atmosphere. Already loads of people were there to do their warming-up at this hour. I parked my bike and did some warming-up of my own.
At a little past 9 o’clock we started running. I had a great healthy sportive competition with the other runners. It is not that I want to win of other runners. It is more that, if I can keep up with other runners, I will improve my own time. So I did and I even ran a personal best. Never in my running career I saw a race so well-organized, with a lot of police and volunteers. I didn’t see anyone taking a shortcut. That’s new for a change.
After the race I met Shellie. She is from the UK. She lives in Valencia and I met her through Twitter. We share the share the same passion of running. It was really nice to meet her and I think we will see each other again in other races. When the race was over we got a goody bag and a fideo, which was welcome. Some pasta after a race is delicious. Thank you very much for the great race MARCA.
